Boat/Yacht/ Personal Watercraft

Boat/Yacht/Personal Watercraft

Most companies provide limited coverage for property damage for small boats such as canoes and small sail boats or small power boats with less than 25 horse power outboard motors under a homeowners or renters insurance policy.  Check with us to find out if your boat is covered and what the limits are. For other boats  (including yachts and personal watercraft), you will need to purchase separate insurance. As boaters know , no two vessels are exactly alike so the size, type, value of the craft and the water in which you use it factor into how much you will pay for insurance coverage.

 Boats/Yachts
Generally, boats covered by a boat owner policy are considered to be motor boats less than 30' long and sailboats of less than 40' while yachts exceed these dimensions and are covered in a different policy.  Since yachts often have larger navigational ranges and face a wider variety of hazards and exposures, yacht insurance tends to be more detailed. You can determine the amount of coverage you wish to carry for physical damage to your vehicle by either selecting the actual cash value, replacement cost, or agreed value coverage. Both types of policies (boats and yachts) typically offer these kinds of coverages:
  • Liability coverage protects against personal injury claims and damages to others resulting from a covered accident if you are found to be legally liable.
  • Collision helps pay for damage to your boat or yacht, motor, trolling motor, trailer, permanent and portable equipment in the event of a covered accident.
  • Comprehensive coverage will help pay for damage to your boat or yacht, motor, trolling motor, trailer, permanent and portable equipment for losses resulting from incidents such as fire, theft or storms.
  • Uninsured or underinsured boater coverage helps cover damage to your boat or yacht, motor, trolling motor, trailer, permanent and portable equipment in the event of a covered accident.
  • Medical payments assist in covering medical bills for the treatment of injuries that are incurred by you or others while operating or occupying your boat.
  • On-water towing and labor is an option that will help cover towing expense and other emergency services if your boat becomes disabled on the water.
Personal Watercraft
You may want to consider purchasing a personal watercraft policy to protect you and your water vehicle in the event of an accidentThe personal watercraft policy usually covers:
  • Liability coverage helps cover injuries and property damage to others resulting from a covered accident if you are found to be legally liable.
  • Collision helps pay for damage to your PWC, motor, trolling motor, trailer, permanent and portable equipment in the event of a covered accident.
  • Comprehensive coverage will help pay for damage to your PWC, motor, trolling motor, trailer, permanent and portable equipment for losses resulting from incidents such as fire, theft or storms.
  • Uninsured or underinsured boater coverage helps cover damage to your PWC, Jet Ski®, motor, trolling motor, trailer, permanent and portable equipment in the event of a covered accident.
  • Medical payments assist in covering medical bills for the treatment of injuries that are incurred by you or others while operating or occupying your boat.
  • On-water towing and labor is an option that will help cover towing expense and other emergency services if your boat becomes disabled on the water.
